DESCRIPTION |
It is a colorless medication used for chemotherapy
by slowing or stopping the growth of caner cells. May be given alone or
in combination with other drugs. |
POSSIBLE COMMON SIDE EFFECTS |
Nausea and vomiting Hair loss (eyebrows and eyelashes usually not affected) Change in taste Lowered blood cell counts (WBC, RBC, platelets) |
POSSIBLE LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS |
Mouth sores (muscositis) Throat irritation Metallic taste in mouth Dizziness or lightheadedness Skin rashes Darkening or red patches of skin (esp. palms of hands and soles of feet) (also increases of skin) Tingling sensation of palms of hands or soles of feet |
PRECAUTION |
Cytoxan irritates the bladder. A drug called
MESNA will be given to you along with Cytoxan to decrease kidney and bladder
side effects and irritation. |
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS |
Drink at least 2 quarts or liquids especially
on the days of treatment. Urinate frequently Avoid persons who are contagious Notify nurse or MD if you have difficulty, pain or bleeding during urination. |
